Description: With only a handful of free visualization products it is a pleasant surprise how good this one is. This is another open source project by Sun Microsystems. Very well done guys!

Description: This is a great PDF printer. I prefer this over the other free ones. Between this and Sumatra PDF I never need Acrobat again! Yay!

Description: AHHHHH to be FREE of Acrobat Reader! That piece of software is so out of control! I can’t stand how bloated it is and how often it tries to update itself! Finally something light weight and fast. It even remembers the last page you were on in the PDF. I can’t even begin to pronounce the author’s name, but I’m sure glad he made this!

Description: I cannot express enough the amount of pain this app has saved me. If you have a lot of MP3s that do not have proper tag formatting and you are now using devices like iPods and such and need to do mass mp3 tag editing there simply is no better app than this one on the planet. I use this app for all my tag editing needs and highly recommend it to you for yours.

Description: If you need to remove some files that are in use or locked by another application this is the little app for you. I have used others before and this one is the best. It isn’t something I always need, but when I do, I am sure glad to have it.

Description: This little app adds mouse control to window movement. I find this very helpful because I like to have my taskbar on top instead of the bottom and sometimes apps will launch underneath the taskbar making it annoying to move the window. The download has a bug warning, but I have personally not come across any issues and it even works with Windows 7 Beta 1.

Download Size: 1.2 MB
Description: A powerful tool that literally takes over windows file copy without having to do anything more than installing it. It handles file copying/moving so much better than windows, making operations faster and more stable. This is a must with Vista (even after turning off “Remote Differential Compression” copying files in Vista is horrendously slow). This has become a staple app for me.

Description: I know, you can change the view source editor for IE in the registry, but who wants to do that and since I don’t do it often enough I never remember the location and key so I have to look it up, etc. There just is no simple way that I have found to change this until I ran accross this nifty little app. So far it has run on every platform of Windows I have used (most of them) and every version of IE I have used. Most importantly it does the job as advertised.

Homepage: Windows Sysinternals
Download Size: 1.6 MB
Description: This tool comes from Sysinternals (a Microsoft acquired Windows tools website) and as far as I can tell every tool on the site is free (and well made). The Process Explorer (the site’s most popular tool) is an upgrade to the generic Task Manager. Basically the Task Manager on steroids, it has a lot of powerful features. You can have it replace the Task Manager in its option menu and even view a handy file IO monitor in the tool tray as well. Don’t forget to right click on the column header to select addition columns to monitor (there are a ton).

Description: This is an open source project on par with Audacity. A very well managed project that, among other things, converts a wide range of audio and video file formats. It can also be used for compression, audio extraction and ripping audio or video discs. It doesn’t support every format, but a lot of them. This is the best free all-in-one conversion tool out there and I spent a lot of time looking.
